Formation of Composite Polymer ‘diode-like’ Membranes

The method of formation of the composite polymer ‘diode-like’ membranes, that possess asymmetry of conductivity in electrolyte solution – a rectification effect similar to that of a p-n junction in semiconductors, is described. To prepare the ‘diodelike’ membranes, a thin polymer layer synthesized in plasma was deposited on the one side of a poly(ethylene terephthalate) track membrane. Study of electrotransport properties of composite membranes using the voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy techniques is presented. Physicochemical aspects of the arising of the conductivity asymmetry for the developed membranes are discussed.
